Häagen-Dazs® is sweet on Honey Bees

At Häagen-Dazs, we’ve always been big defenders of the humble honey bee.

Not only do bees help pollinate over one-third of the world’s crops, they also help in the creation of one-third of our most beloved flavors. So next time you are enjoying smooth Mango or sweet Strawberry, thank the bees.

The Plight of the Honey Bees

Unfortunately, the bee population has been disappearing at an alarming rate, putting the future of our food system at risk. Colony Collapse Disorder is spreading from hive to hive, causing bees to mysteriously abandon their own homes to die. Even though the population has bounced back due to combined efforts, we still need your help.

Main Causes of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD)

The reason this is happening is complicated and varies depending on the region, but experts agree on four main contributors: pesticides, parasites, poor nutrition and stress caused from climate changes and relocation.

Pesticides

Various pesticides being used in areas reporting CCD

Parasites

Invasion of
parasites

Nutrition

Destruction of habitat and food sources

Stress

Increased stress related to climate and being relocated.

Save the Bees,
Save your favorite flavors

Bees pollinate everything from almonds and coconuts to tart raspberries. The simple truth is that if the bees vanish, the delicious ingredients we use to make some of your favorite flavors, such as Rocky Road, Mango, and even our classic Strawberry will vanish too.

How WE ARE Helping

10 Years

For the past decade, we’ve been committed to saving our hardest workers through our Häagen-Dazs loves Honey Bees initiative.

1M Donated

To date we’ve donated over one million dollars to pollinator education and research and we’ve applied our resources and expertise to help develop solutions that make a real impact.

A New Home

In 2016, we installed 6-1/2 miles of permanent hedgerow (the largest in the US) at the farm of our almond supplier, and in doing so have created a pollinator habitat for the bees for the whole year.
